JCT FAQ
In this article, we will provide you with information about the Japanese Consumption Tax (JCT) and how it applies to our services.
Here's what you need to know:
What is JCT and how does it affect you?
Japanese Consumption Tax (JCT) is a 10% tax applied to all our services in Japan. This tax is included in the total amount you pay.
What's on your invoices and receipts?
Our invoices and receipts display amounts in the main billing currency, which is United States Dollars (USD), along with estimates in Japanese Yen (JPY) for your reference. Look out for a note about the JCT liability on these documents.
Can I deduct tax from my payments if I provide my Business number to Semrush?
Currently, we do not collect Business numbers for tax purposes from our customers in Japan. We are obliged to collect JCT on all payments of customers consuming our service within Japan regardless of whether they might be considered Business-to-Consumer (B2C) or Business-to-Business (B2B). That is because the services offered by Semrush fall under the category of Business-to-Consumer (B2C) digital services as per JCT Law.
Where can you find more information?
For detailed information about JCT regulations and laws, you can refer to the official resources provided by the National Tax Agency of Japan:
- Information about Consumption Tax (in English)
- Pamphlet on Consumption Tax (in Japanese)
